Referred to Rapid Cancer Diagnosis Service, live in Scotland

Hi,

I know this Rapid Diagnosis thing is a very new concept. I am based in Scotland and after a year long of random symptoms that the GP can't figure out, I went to GP again today - and she said I am going to refer you to a new clinic for people with lots of different symptoms to take a deeper look. She accidently mentioned RCDS in her speel. It wasn't until I googled it I realised I had been referred to a Cancer service!

As you can imagine, I have a million things going around my mind, as its obviously suspected to be cancer. It says I will have an appointment within 3 working days, which is also very worrying as its so fast!

Symptoms are: extreme weightloss, nausea, change in bowel movements (type, constipation, look, and passing differently), some gastric symptoms such as gas, gurgling, abdominal pain and feeling full, dizziness, pale skin, feeling full quickly, low vitamin D, low Folic acid, menstrual changed to heavy and clots and shorter, more emotional, extreme fatigue, losing hair naturally etc.

What type could it be?

  • Hi Cherubs,

I'm so sorry to read about your symptoms and glad they're being fully investigated. I'm very new to all of this, so I've no idea what type of cancer it could be, or what had been explored already. But can understand the uncertainty and worrying while waiting for answers as my appointment is still a while off.
I am reaching out as my dad had virtually identical symptoms to you and, following 24 months of appointments, was diagnosed with coeliac disease. (Skin tint, hair loss and whitening, digestive and gastric issues, weight loss, fatigue.) However, at his final appointment before diagnosis they had prepared him that it was likely to be cancer (which is wasn't). The coeliac hadn't shown in his blood - it was a camera and biopsy. He has likely had it his whole life, but body gave up being able to manage it, and the fatigue and weight loss had caused him to give up work. 5 years down the line on a gf diet and he's doing well.
Hope that they can get to the bottom of it for you, and that it's not a difficult diagnosis for you.

    Amy
