Worried after mri

I went for an mri today after the lump I have couldn't be seen on ultrasound, the person carrying out the scan afterwards asked me where the lump was so o told him, he asked how long I have had it and if it is painful which I answered, I then asked the other man that was helping why he was asking me those questions after the scan and he told me he might of found something so confirming.

 

I have come out feeling awful and so scared, I have 2 young children and just worried sick as I have had the lump for 2 years.

    Hi Cherrie,

    I can understand why you feel so scared after this. Have you got any follow up appointments? You will naturally want to know what they found. Was this arranged through your GP or breast care clinic? It sounds as if you should be attending the breast clinic, who can do any tests needed in a much shorter time than waiting for referrals from your GP. Many of us have breast lumps, but fortunately only a small number of these thend to be cancerous. Many are benign cysts or fibrous changes. It is also a fact that, out of every 10 people referred to the breast clinic, only 2 will get acancer diagnosis.

    I lost my Mum to secondary breast cancer, which had spread to her brain, bone, liver & lungs. I have 2 children too and I worried that I might never get to see the grow up and reach all of their milestones. I am now 14 years down the line, after having 2 bouts ofbreast cancer andI still lead a busy and fulfilling life.

    Hi thank you for the reply, the lump isn't actually in my breast I wasn't very clear it is under my jawline, it has been there for 2 years, I went to my gp 2 years ago and was sent for an ultrasound where they said it's nothing to worry about, it started feeling a little painful so I went back to the gp who said they would refer me for an ultrasound, I went for an ultrasound where the sonographer said they Couldn't see it and the scan was normal and that was that.

    I didn't feel very happy with it not being seen on ultrasound so I went for a private mri where they will send my gp my results in 7 working days. 
     

    sorry you lost your mum to breast cancer, I also lost my mum when she was young and I was only 18 and my sister was 4 at the time so I think because of this I worry even more about dying young myself.

    HI Cherrie,

    I am sorry I misinterpreted your previous post. It is a pity that you had to go for a private MRI to convince yourself that all is clear. Sadly, we often have to be proactive orselves to get things done. Some lumps don't show on ultrasound, while others don't always show on MRI, So you were right to do this, just to put your mind to rest.

    Has anyone ever said that this lump could be an enlarged lymph node? These can react to even a minor infection. They should settle down again, as the infection subsides, but some can remain enlarged for life, without leading to cancer. I must add that I am not a doctor, but I have heard of this happening.

    Let's hope that what the sonographer saw, was something simple like this. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.
