Mum's Laparotomy

Hi all,

My mum had an emergency laparotomy a couple of weeks ago for a perforated colon. When they opened her up they removed 1m of intestines and said it looked highly suspicious for cancer so sent it off to the labs for biopsies/histology. It's been 2 weeks now, she's home and no one has heard anything more? Does anyone know what the next steps are or when we should start chasing results??

  • Hello n.h.390,

You would generally get biopsy results within about 2 weeks but there may have been delays - I think you could start chasing results now by getting in touch with your GP surgery or the hospital where she had the laparotomy. They will be able to tell you more and give you an update on your mum's results.

I hope that you will hear from other forum members who have been in a similar situation before and that they will share their story with you. I am keeping everything tightly crossed for your mum that it all turns out to be nothing too concerning.

    Best wishes,
