Haematology blood test results

Hi

Hope anyone reading this is ok!
To cut a long story short I had my first appointment with my haematologist last Tuesday 2nd May after I've been having persistent symptoms for 6 months of itching, constant dry cough, night sweats, exhaustion, chest pains, pain when drinking alcohol and lumps in neck groin and armpit.(to name just a few). I had blood tests taken and she said she was going to send for a CT scan to be done. She also said regarding blood tests that I would only hear from her if tests were abnormal. Flash forward to today and a telephone appointment with the haematologist has been booked for 24th May. I am presuming this means my bloods have come back abnormal? My husband seems to think it's non urgent since the two week wait but I'm just wondering if anyone else has had abnormal results given to them this way before? I am still waiting for my CT appointment too at the moment so either way I'm not out of the woods just yet.
Thank you for reading this

  • UPDATE

I've now got to go and have more blood tests on Tuesday next week a week prior to my telephone appointment I'm guessing this is so my haematologist can compare the two sets of results? First time going through this so just abit unsure

  • HI Mollie,

I am so sorry to hear that you are going through the harrowing stage of waiting for results. Try not to second guess every little detail, or to overthink things, as this always makes us even more anxious - impossible not to, I know! It does sound as if your additional blood tests might be to compare with the original ones.

Maybe the haematologist is leaving you for 2 weeks before she talks to you about your bloods, in the hope that you will have had your scan by then? Most consultants like to give all results, irrespective of the outcome, face-to-face. However, some are so busy, that they have to rely on giving all results via telephone. As I suggested above, it is impossible to second guess.

Please keep in touch and let us know when you get an appointment through for your scan. This stage of the unknown is always a worrying time and our overactive imaginations only make matters worse. You will feel better once you know one way or another. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
