CT waiting times

Hi everyone ️

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of waiting times for a CT scan in NHS Scotland, GCC in particular if possible. My dad has been a heavy smoker for just shy of 50 years, and has been unwell for a wee while; breathlessness, continuous nasty cough, weight loss etc, exhaustion, unwavering headaches, confusion and states of delusions etc., They have discovered a "shadow" on his lung alongside raised white blood cell count and dangerously low sodium levels (the doctor was preparing us for "coma or death") which the gp stated was related to rarer forms of lung cancer. This was on Friday. The GP, radiographer and initial assessment unit have all put in urgent referrals to specialists for CT Scans but he will be treated as an outpatient. I was hoping someone could share their experience or that of their loved ones of the time scale from urgent referral submission to CT scan/diagnosis. I appreciate it's not going to be instant and that everyone's situation is unique to them, I understand the pressures on our health service and don't fault those in the NHS at all; however, being in limbo is exhausting and looking for some comfort I suppose. Any info would be so greatly appreciated! Sending love, peace and solidarity to all on the forum.

I'm sorry to hear your Dad has some health problems at the moment and that he's now waiting for an urgent CT scan. It's understandable you may be feeling anxious.

There's certainly no harm in giving the hospital a call and asking about how long he may be waiting to be seen. It's also worth asking if they hold a cancellation list if your Dad is able to attend an appointment at short notice.

I hope that he has a date soon and that the team is able to give you some answers.

    Best wishes,
