More tests more worry, still no plan

Hi all

Following a unsettled few weeks, 2 ultrasound scans which have found a 6cm cyst on ovary suggesting an endometrioma with a solid mass inside. An uneven uterus and a high CA125 (141). I had gynae initial app today. The consultant done a uterine biopsy there and then and organising a hysteroscopy and sent me for an urgent blood test today (CA19-9). She also said they are holding an MDT on Tuesday and they will be discussing my file then and the next course of action will probably be a CT or MRI but she could not tell me what the plan will likely be in regards to the cyst. She said they need to try and work out the type of cyst 1st as it looks complex and because I have intermittent bleeding causing low iron they need to try and sort this out 1st because I'm at higher risk having surgery if I'm anaemic. She did say I'm on a fast track plan and they are trying to build the whole picture to come up with an adequate plan to deal with all the problems effectively. I'm a bit confused by the CA19-9 as I asked what this will determine and her answer was to try and work out what sort of cyst it is, I thought it was another blood test to look for cancer protein. I'm confident she knew what she was talking about but I feel like she's hiding some things from me as well, which is a bit scary. I guess I just need to have more tests, wait for more results and then hopefully a solid plan

  • Hi Indi42,

I am sorry to hear that your tests are causing some confusion. Sometimes we need additional tests to get a clearer picture of exactly what we are dealing with. Until they have the full picture, they cannot decide what treatment to prioritise. This must be very frustrating for you, but you will get there - it just takes a little longer.

I very much doubt that your doctor was hiding something from you, as they tend to tell things exactly as they see them. Please keep in touch and let us know when your scan date comes through. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks for your reply. I'm sure the Dr isn't hiding anything from me, it just feels like I'm not being told everything, just more tests, more scans etc. I guess it's because they have nothing definitive to tell me yet and still trying to build the full picture to put a plan in place.

I wasn't expecting a biopsy or bloods today as it was my initial consultation with gynae, but I'm grateful they are fast tracking everything and hopefully will have a plan and some answers soon.

    Thanks again

    Hi Indi,

As soon as all of your results come back, your consultant will discuss your case at her next MDT meeting (multi-disciplinary team) meeting. These are regular meetings of all the professionals at the clinic who are involved in our care. Here they discuss the best treatment for you, if any is needed. By the time you go for your results, your consultant will then have some answers for you.

Try to keep busy in the meantime - it helps the time to pass.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
