Been trying to get my mum seen since JULY LAST YEAR.

Hi there, I posted last year when I was trying to get my mum seen properly. We are still trying. She first started getting lower abdominal pain last fully, went to the GP and gave her Buscopan which didn't help. She then lost around 2 stone of weight so kept going back but with no action. In September she got upset and demanded tests so they gave her a transvan scan with clear results, a FIT test with normal results, normal ca125 and a endoscopy which was normal.

She is feeling unwell and in pain all day every day but the GP has cleared her now. We don't know what to do, she has been on a waiting list for an abdominal ultrasound since December and she calls the hospital daily but they say she's still on the list. I'm so worried if she does have cancer it has been left so long now it won't be treatable. Am I being too paranoid here as the GP doesn't seem concerned after the tests they have done? I've felt this fear in my stomach since July and it's really upsetting my whole family.

I don't know if it's relevant but the Dr seems to have written her off with anxiety now and she says the pain goes if she drinks alcohol/fully relaxes. The pain is low abdominal

Thanks Nina

    Hi Nina,

I am so sorry to hear of the concern that this must be causing both you and your mum. Has she only seen the one GP throughout all of this time? We are all entitled to a second opinion in the NHS and it sounds as if it is time for your mum to maybe see another doctor from the practice, who might be more sympathetic and proactive.

Please keep in touch and let us know how she gets on. We are always here for both of you.

    Kind regards,
    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

    Thank you for your reply,

as the Dr has now written her off and passed her to the hospital she feels like they have cleared their hands of her, also the GP she saw all those times is the partner and 'highest' one there the others are fairly new and my mum works there so makes it a bit more complicated.

I've convinced her to try and speak to her today but my mum gets very stressed and upset when I tell her it's important incAse she is ill. It's very hard.

    kind regards Nina xxx

  • Could you afford to go private for peace of mind sake ,that's what I would do it could be money well spent in the long run as it seems like you could have a long wait ,I know everyone can't afford to go private but if it was me as I say I would beg or borrow for my healths sake rather than carry on with daily worries .

  • Thank you, we have spoke about that but as we have no indication what area it is that needs to be scanned she doesn't know what she needs to get scanned, she was looking at a colonoscopy but said it is over £2,000 which we cannot afford and her GP told her it was pointless due to negative FIT and blood tests

  • I see , I understand where the Doctor is coming from and I know they are extremely busy but sometimes things like this can affect peoples mental health so it could cause another health problem simply because of so much worry on a daily basis so by allowing a colonoscopy it would hopefully put an end to it which would be good all round .

  • Hi Nina,

The fact that your mum works in the practice does make things more awkward. Could she phone the hospital again and ask how high up the list she is and when she is likely to be seen. This would at least give you a time frame. It would be helpful to know what the average waiting times are for an ultrasound scan in your area. This is something that the hospital should be able to tell her too.

I appreciate that she has seen the senior partner in the practice, but she may find that some of the younger doctors would be less entrenched in their ways and be more inclined to send her for different tests. She has nothing to lose if they don't.

Please let us know how she gets on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
