Hi everyone,
I had a blood test yesterday (friday) at a private clinic due to worsening anemia symptoms over 5 months. This includes extreme fatigue, breathlessness that makes it impossible to even go up my stairs at home, weight loss, vomiting and just generally pale and washed out. Never actually diagnosed with anemia but dr says it seems like that.
I got a call not long after ti say they had my results and that it's all normal except my haemoglobin with is 4.2. Dr advised i go to a&e asap as this is dangerously low.
Im just so confused as i don't know what i'm even going to a&e for? blood transfusion? and will they try to find the root cause or just get my Hb up and then send me away?
From my googling a Hb level that low is life threatening and i do feel absolutely awful but i was not expecting it to be that serious and i feel silly going to a&e and telling them i need to be seen immediately when to the naked eye i probably seem fine.
I guess my main question is did anybody who's been diagnosed with cancer have initial symptoms like mine and/or it was their Hb level that was the main warning sign? i'm aware it could just be anemia but 2 of my grandparents currently have cancer so i'm just worried that this could be leukaemia or something.
How does the dr decide that tests for cancer are necessary vs it just being anemia?
I decided to wait to go to a&e until the morning (saturday) so i can go early and avoid wait times although i'm having no luck sleeping as i'm worrying too much. Wish me luck as i have no idea what i'm doing!
