So scared

Hi I'm new here I'm so worried I'm 40 with three children and for the past four weeks I've been having problems after I eat. I can swallow bit food feels like it's sitting in my throat and chest I have. Hiatus hernia and have been having problems with herd possible gastritis since last year but never the feeling of food not going down this is a new symptom. My GP has referred me for a emergency endoscopy and he has mentioned cancer I'm so scared has anyone else had this I feel like I have nobody to talk to as nobody understand they keep saying don't be silly etc

  • Hello Sunnynat82 and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am so sorry to hear about these problems you have been having after eating. You did the right thing in going to the GP and it's great that they are being thorough and have referred you for an emergency endoscopy. It is bound to be an anxious time for you especially as the GP mentioned cancer but try if you can not to anticipate what it may be as there are so many other conditions it could be other than cancer and you won't know for sure until you have had your test results. The wait can feel agonisingly long and there are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for news.

The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
