Adnexal mass and CA125 level 52

Hi all. I am worried sick as a CT scan has identified an adnexal mass near my left ovary and a subsequent blood test for CA125 has come back elevated at 52. I am now scheduled for an ultrasound on Thursday morning.

I had an ultrasound last June which showed a small fibroid but nothing of any concern. I also had an abdominal ultrasound in A and E in November as I was having severe pain low down in my abdomen. Nothing was seen on this CT scan.

I am absolutely terrified that I have ovarian cancer!

My symptoms thus far have been-

hip pain radiating down front of thigh, bloating with excessive wind, niggly ovary twinges and flooding periods (I've always had unusually heavy periods).

I was in the middle of a heavy period when bloods were done which some have said can affect the CA125 levels.

Has anybody else experienced similar?

I should probably add that I am 49 and suffer with anxiety disorder and panic disorder which I've had since I was 18. This is so scary!!

  • Hi Dajeka and welcome to Cancer Chat.

I'm sorry to hear about the mass that's been found near your left ovary and for the worry this is understandably causing but our community are here for you and I'm sure anyone who has been in a similar situation will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

Also, raised ca125 levels can be a result of other conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids and even pregnancy, so try not to panic or think the worst if you can. Much easier said than done I know, but if you feel it may help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday (except bank holidays) between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to help.

I hope your ultrasound went well this morning Dajeka and that your results bring good news when they come through.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
