ENT 2 Week Urgent Suspected Cancer Pathway Experience

Hi all,

I am just posting to see if this can be of some help to peopel in this forum as this forum greatly helped me whilst waiting for my appointment.

From the beginning, I am a 22 year old female. I had severe tonsilitis and I went to an emergency GP appointment. Whilst at the appointment I was diognoised with tonsilitis. My GP then said that he needed to get hismanager in to take a look at my tonsils as they looked abnormal. I did not know of any of the symptoms of tonsil cancer at this point so I was not worried.

My GP then told me that he was going to reffer me to the 2 week pathway for urgent suspected cancer. I was extremley unwell with my tonsilitis and my mind was spinning around as I did not expect thids when I came to my appointment.

My GP said not to be worried and it is just to be safe but as I am sure you are all aware, you cannot help but worry! I was worried sick and as my tonsilitis got better, I was able to see the cyst that he mentioned. I was booked in for my 2WW appointment but I did not know what to expect. I spent alot of time reading through forums and googling it but I was still scared.

I thought I would write about my 2ww appointment experience.

When I got there they let me bring my oartner in, no questions asked.

They then asked me some questions, felt my neck, felt my tonsils and put a camera up ny nose and mouth to have a look. None of this was poainful, just mildly uncomfortable.

I was then tolkd that it is just a cyst and I have nothig at all to worry about. He told me I have probably had this all my life.

I was still worried so I asked for a biopsy just to be safe. He said that I do not need one but if it puts my mind at ease then he will do one. They injected my tonsil with some anaesthetic which did not hurt and then they did the biopsy. This also did not hurt as I was numbed. I was told it would hurt and given a vomit bowl as there would be lots of blood but honetsly it did not hurt and there was minimal-no blood.

Afterwards he looked at my biopsy sample and he said that it is normal tonsil tissue.

He said that he was a bit annoyed as all of the refferals he has has that morning are just regular benign cysts. It is better to be safe then sorry but this calmed me too that I was the 9/10 that get reffered and it is not cancer.

He said I will get my results over the phone or via letter in 3 weeks.

I am still awaiting these results but I feel a lot more calm now that a specialist has said that he is 99.9% certain that it is just  regulat benign cyst.

Just posting my experience here to see if it will help anyone.

I am happy to answer any questions.
