Bowel cancer

Hi. Bit of a long post so bear with me. Just looking for some reassurance as feel I have no one to talk to.

I had a private colonoscopy nearly a year ago due to some concerning symptoms such as blood in stool. My mom and auntie have both had bowel cancer. The colonoscopy didn't really show anything however the prep wasn't the best so im scared something may have been missed. Symptoms seemed to go away.

The last few weeks I have started having blood/mucus in stools again. Some abdo pain sometimes all over but sometimes just in the left side. Feel like I need to go to the toilet more but not going. When I do go there's always blood and yesterday I passed a thinner stool than normal. Bloods and FIT test done- fit test positive. I have been refered back for another colonoscopy in a few weeks time but I can't stop worrying I'm so scared. I'm 31 with 2 young little girls and I can't bear the thought of having to leave them has anyone had similar symptoms and everything's been ok?

  • I'm sorry to hear your symptoms have returned and that you've been referred for another colonoscopy.

It's completely understandable, and natural to be feeling worried but if you can, try to stay calm and not think the worst. Much easier said than done I know, but I hope it helps to know that you are not alone as many of our members have been in a similar situation and hopefully some of them will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

I hope some of the tips and advice given on the NHS Every Mind Matters website will help steady your nerves as well.

We're thinking of you Nervousmumma86 and will have our fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,
