Neck Ultrasound - Nervous!

Hello!

I was referred for an ultrasound as I have had a couple of lumps come up on my neck over the last few months. They're visible when I turn my head, and they feel huge when I touch them.

I got referred for an ultrasound and went to my appointment yesterday where they scanned my entire neck. At the end of the scan, they said that everything looked okay and they couldn't see anything concerning but they will send the results to my GP for further evaluation.

I'm really anxious at the moment as I wait for the results because I am convinced that something is wrong, but how accurate are they when they say that they don't see anything concerning? Is the GP likely to pick something up that they could have missed?

Thanks!

  • I have had a number of neck ultrasounds since having thyroid cancer and in my experience, they do know what they are talking about. I've been told twice that everything looked fine and in both cases, they were correct. My feeling is that they wouldn't say anything if they weren't fairly sure. Of course, there can always be mistakes but I would definitely think that sounds positive.

  • Hi,

I had my ultrasound and then recieved news that the were abnormalities the next morning, so if they weren't sure everything was okay, you would've recieved word in the few days after the ultrasound, I say that you keep an eye and if anything changes go back to GP
