Is a telephone follow-up a good sign?

Hello,

I've been waiting a couple of weeks for my excision biopsy results, and was told yesterday that they're super busy and are struggling to find appointment slots for everyone needing a follow-up appointment. But just had a call to say they've booked me a telephone follow-up on Wednesday. I feel like this is good news as I was told at the clinic that my follow-up would be face-to-face, so this seems quite positive. But I just wanted to see if other people agree?

I realise they're super busy, but I imagine it takes as much time to give results over the phone as it does in person, so it wouldn't be to save time. But then before I've had the results from the consultant and then been left to chat with the breast care nurse...so that will save time as I won't have a chance to chat to the nurse or ask questions as I always feel I have less time to think when chatting on the phone. So then I go back to worrying again.

So just thought I'd ask what other people's experiences are with regards to phone and face-to-face appointments.

    Hi Cherry,

    It is impossible to tell which way your results will go over the phone. Most surgeons prefer to give a face-to-face interview for all results, irrespective of the outcoome. However, some claim to be so busy that they that they give their results via phone. I suspect that people don't chat as long on the phone, as they do face-to-face and you don't get the chance to chat to the nurse, so this must save some time.

    There have been cases of good and bad results being given via phone and I sincerely hope that yours will be favourable.

    Hi Jolamine,

    I feel happier just knowing that I have an appointment to be honest, as it's the waiting that's been making me anxious. Obviously I'm still waiting for the appointment, but at least it's only a few days now, and I'm quite busy for the next few days anyway so that will help!

    I just thought I'd see what other people think as I don't want to just assume it'll all be ok only to then find out it's not. I do feel quite confident though, and even if it's not such great news at least the wait will be over and I'll know one way or another.

    Hi Cherry,

    Irrespective of the outcome, you'll feel even better once you know your results. The waiting is truly awful and trying to cope wuth the unknown is horrendous. I'm glad to hear that you are busy for the next few days, as this should help the waiting time to pass.

    Whatever the news is, you can deal with it and I sincerely hope that nothing untoward is found.
