Hello
I'm 71 and waiting for biopsy results. The specialist and ultrasound doctor are fairly sure of a positive result and the size is large, 5cm maybe more.I'm so sad and frightened.

Hello Patsy,
I'm so sorry you're going through this. Waiting for results is one of the worst parts. You will see a lot of advice on here telling you to distract yourself while waiting, not to catastrophise and definitely not to resort to Dr Google! All brilliant advice, but easier said than done. All I can say, and many have said it before me, is once the results come through even if it's not the news you hoped for, you will feel better (believe it or not) that you know what you're dealing with and that a treatment plan will be put in place. Through my own experience, I can tell you that our wonderful NHS really goes up a gear in these circumstances and they will have the expertise to help you if you need it. Personally, it really helps me to read all the positive stories on here - and there are plenty of those. I'm now 65 and was diagnosed with bowel cancer three years ago, a 6cm tumour in the colon, and am just coming to the end of the monitoring period (CT scans and colonoscopies). And just to say, it's worth remembering that the biopsy results may not confirm initial thoughts.
Hi [@Patsy51] it really is the worst time isn't it! I had to wait 15 days for my biopsy result. Mine is 2cm (or was a few weeks ago) and came back positive for an agressive type but as [@SueinSurrey] says, once you get your result, no matter what it is it is better because you know its been found and now action will be taken. Hopefully yours will be benign and if it is not there is reassurance in how well they can treat breast cancers now but fingers crossed you'll be all clear x
Hi Patsy,
A very warm welcome to our forum.
I am sorry to hear that you find yourself in this unenviable position. Like you, I was told at my first appointment, that they suspected cancer. Although this came as a shock, it did give me a couple of weeks to come to terms with my diagnosis and draw up some questions for my consultant, before I got the official results.
SueinSurrey has given you some excellent advice. Can I ask what type of cancer you are being tested for? I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer, but that was all 13 years ago and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life. Treatments have improved dramatically in the past few years and fortunately, a cancer diagnosis is not as grim as it used to be.
Please keep in touch and let us know how your results go. Have you been told when to expect them? We are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
Its a tough one. I had my biopsy yesterday and before that hadn't really thought a lump would be anything. Now I'm worried and keep going back to the ultrasound and what was said. It was "not clear" so now a 2 week wait. I wonder if knowing is better than waiting?
do hope you will be fine and this forum looks really good place to be
