Changing mole

Hi all. First time posting. About a month ago a mole appeared on my side. I have never had a mole there before. I know its common to get new moles as you get older. Withing 2 weeks it changed. It was raised up off the skin black scabby looking with a red ring round it. I saw my GP and she was worried about it. I got the 2 week referral. A few days later I got a letter throw the post with an appointment for the 26th April. Nearly 2 weeks after the original referral. Its now the 22nd and my mole has nearly completely gone. It looks like a old scab that's healed and it's a brown with a little redness. Do I still go to the appointment? And explain that its gone now. Or do I cancel the appointment. I'm really unsure of what to do.

If I go to the appointment and it's nothing then I have wasted everyone's time and taken an appointment from someone that could have really needed it.

But I don't go and it is something more. It could be too late to catch it. I have read up somewhere that cancerous moles can get smaller and disappear. Mine got smaller first now it's gone. There's still a mark where it was but what if that's completely gone by the appointment. Then I have nothing to show.

Any advice will be much appreciated thank u.

  • You still go as moles (benign or malignant) can regress (disappear on the skin) and the consultant needs to be aware of this. Do you have any photos of your mole? If so, show them to the dermatologist. Your GP saw your mole and felt it appropriate to refer you so let the dermatologist check whatever is left in that area. They may also check any other moles to be on the safe side. It's best that you have the peace of mind the appointment can give you. Good luck
