Possible secondary breast cancer

June 2022 I was diagnosed, initially with DCIS. It was however a large tumor so a single mastectomy was recommended.I had this in august 2022 along with sentinel node biopsy and reconstruction. My pathology showed that the breast cancer was infact stage 2 and that my lymph nodes were clear of disease. Was placed tamoxifen, which I'm doing really well with and didn't need radiotherapy or chemo.

March 2023 I met with my consultant to discuss end of treatment plan- and got booked in for surgery for symmetry of my unaffected breast.

April 2023 I found a lump under my armpit-same side as I had the breast cancer- my consultant had me straight in, ultrasound showed more cancer, it's in one lymph node, so awaiting results of this biopsy- to see if it's the same type of cells as before- a local reaccurance, and also the results of a CT scan to see if it's spread and is secondary.

im terrified

more so for my husband and my three young boys- I hate the waiting

My positive cancer journey has turned so negative in the space of weeks

  • Maxem

im so sorry of what you are going through I also had breast cancer july 22 and out on tamoxifen

it's a big fear of it returning always I felt my heart miss a beat when I read that you could have a secondary and so soon what a terrible time you are having I can't imagine how stressful this is so you never even got to your first mamo ?

just wanted to send you well wishes and I really hope that this time they get it all and you will be free of this horrible disease once and for all .

    love Lara

  • Nope didn't get to my first Mamo, was due that in September this year. I'm just trying to stay positive that it's a local reoccurrence and not secondary but I'm really struggling

  • Mazem

it's got to be local surely it's only been a few months I pray it's going to be all ok for you , how did you tell did you feel unwell as it's something lots of us have to think about the possibility of it returning really ?
My first mamo is aug sept I think already dreading it ️

  • I had full auxiliary node clearance after my lunpectomy I had 30 nodes taken I'm glad I did now as this was peace of mind as if the nodes are gone less chance hopefully of anything ️

  • I was just sat in my sofa, moved my arm and could feel something in my armpit, so I checked myself and could feel it was quite a large lump- I just don't know how it could have been missed as when I had my mastectomy, my consultant took the three closest lymph nodes to the tumour and they came back clear, my head is an absolute shed at the minute

  • It's horrible

I don't no why they just don't take al lymph nodes in arm first as last to be honest

so you are back at the breast clinic again lovely

When do you get results have you been waiting long ?
    love Lara ️

  • I had an ultrasound and biopsy on Monday 17th- ultrasound confirmed cancer biopsy to see what type.

CT scan was Thursday 20th and now it's a wait till Tuesday 2nd for the results, so just over another full week to wait still.

  • Mazem

stay here for chats support lovely

I'm always here to chat xx

    I'm parting for you ️

  • I finally got my results

my CT scan was clear, no signs of cancer anywhere else, so it is looking like it is contained to just one node. I'm booked in for surgery to remove it and have a lymph clearance on the 18th May.

My consultant said the biopsy showed it's the same disease (type of cells) as previous time it's just a case of possibly a tiny cell that has been missed that has continued to grow or if it's a new tumor. He is fairly positive it's a bit that hasn't played ball last time as my cancer is slow growing so he would expect a new tumor to so soon after last time. He said the tamoxifen I was in has done its job of not spreading further.

I have been told to prepare for the possibility of some chemo after surgery to make double sure.

I honestly thought it was going to be the worst news possible, now I know and have a plan moving forward I can relax a little bit .

  • That's great news Mazem, what a relief for you!
