HPV High Risk and Symptomatic

Hi all,

Just looking for some support really.
My smear showed high risk HPV levels back in feb, I was also suffering at the time from abnormal bleeding (abnormal for me as I've never had bleeding / periods since my coil was fitted yrs ago), painful sex, bleeding after sex, discharge, pelvic and lower back pain. I'm also incredibly fatigued and feel very faint at times. I had already seen my gp prior to getting these results who referred me for an emergency ultrasound where they found what they believe to be a cyst on one of my ovaries which the gp has referred me for more investigative scans to check this fully.

My symptoms have continued and at times been unbearable so the gp has, as well as the above scan referral, also referred me on to the gyane team. I've been waiting 9 weeks already and had no news - chased it up but bar this i am currently at a point now where i am really scared as to what could potentially be wrong. Due to my smear results and the symptoms I am showing cervical cancer has been mentioned but obviously is not a definite at this stage. Im just terrified and feeling very alone at the moment with all of this and on the days when my symptoms are really bad I really struggle with the worry of it so very much.

  • Hi Enolax24,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing these difficulties and I know the waiting must be tough.

It's good to hear you have a referral - I'm not sure if your doctor has given you an idea of timescales, and therefore when would be a good idea to chase. If not, perhaps you can speak to them to find this out, so you can better understand what to expect in terms of the wait.

Otherwise, try to keep busy where possible and take things a day at a time. I'm sure there will be others here who have experienced something similar, so hopefully you'll get some more replies soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
