Six months ago, I started having discomfort in my stomach and trapped wind. I had a battery of blood and stool tests (including a FIT), which all came back negative.
However, while my discomfort went away for a few weeks, they then came back and have been waxing and waning on and off.
I was prescribed Omeprazole which helped quite a bit. But a few days after I ran out I started noticing small specks of black in my stools and took another FIT test, which sadly came back positive (63) – (I also had some blood tests, but never got the results so I assume they were negative).
So, I’m due to a have an OGD, Colonopscy & CT Scan in a few days.
I’m worried that it is going to be cancer, either bowel or stomach.
My GP thinks I’m “too young” at 40 to have stomach cancer, and says its gastritis. The hospital nurse thought it was HPylori.
Funny thing is that despite my problems, I still have a large appetite and can eat relatively large meals without problem.
(1). Does having a good appetite make stomach cancer less likely, especially after six months of symptoms?
(2). If I do have bowel cancer, does a score of 63 make it less likely to be an advanced cancer?
(3). If it was HP, wouldn’t the Omeprazole have sorted it out?
