ovarian cyst

Hi All

i'm completely out of my mind with worry. i went to the doctors last feb  with lower rightsside pain, heavy periods, bloating struggling to go to the poo during ovulation etc. i'm 50 but still had periods. Had an internal and external scan which was clear. But the pain continued so went to a private gynaecologist. she then put me on the pill which helped. stopped the bloating, heavy periods. however my periods then lasted for 17 odd days which was annoying although light. in december my GP started try the mirena coil. which has worked well, although still have light periods. However the the pain started to return along with weight gain and now constipation. i had another scan friday where two cysts where found 5.5cm and 4cm one on each ovary. i've now been told to have a CA125 test, depending on the result i will either have an urgent or routine appointment. i've booked in again privately to see the gynaecologist. the test is tomorrow. i'm completely worried sick, i've read the sysmptom of OC and constipation is listed as a very common system. i've also had melanoma skin cancer recently which puts me a higher risk. i'm so worried about this results of this test. Anyone had constipation and benign cysts x

  • Hi l have had complex  overian  cysts similar to yours,  l was post menopausal, so they should have been dormant. I had left sided pain, weight loss and bowel changes. My refferal was a two week wait,  gynae oncology appointment from colorectal oncology as the cysts were found during a scan. Gynaecology sent me for further tests to see if they had shrunk MRI, Transvaginal/abdominal ultrasounds repeated bloods the oncology surgeon then listed me for surgery.
This was during Covid and l was surprised at the speed of it all as the first surgeon said we don't operate on cysts that small, they need to be over 10cm!

My surgery took over 4 1/2 hrs due to extensive adhesions from previous surgery they had to do open surgery to find the left overy.
It took a while to get back to normal, but lm pleased to say that the left sided pain has improved and the multiple biopsies were fortunately benign.
l do hope that you have a speedy appointment and that you know what's happening soon. It is worrying to find yourself in the middle of investigations everything seems to take ages.

    Take care

  • I went to the GP with irregular and sometimes heavy bleeding. I'd been bleeding for 8 weeks continuously by then  . Had lower left side pain, bloating and toilet issues. My scans found 2 cysts on each ovary, largest at 5.5 cm, others between 1 and 3 cm .I had the blood tests, CT and MRI scans and they said they were benign and I should be scanned again in 6 months. At that scan, the largest cyst on one ovary and one cyst on the other ovary were unchanged, the other two cysts had shrunk. Like you I've been put on the mirena coil for the bleeding. I have to go back for another scan to check for cysts in July. They vaguely talked about hormone imbalances, I'm in my 50s

  • Hi, sounds very similar. i've read the mirena coil can cause cysts so i wonder if that's the reason. i've had my blood test done this morning. feel like digging a big hole and sticking my head in. Since february it's been one thing after another. When i had the coil fitted they also started me on HRT as i was getting very anxious, clearly that's not working as this has made my anxiety go through the roof. The did do a FIT test ( poo test) on me and that was clear. But something definitely is a miss.
