Lymph node in armpit

Hi there i am hoping someone in the same position can offer some advice I had an appointment at the breast clinic recently had a mammogram, ultrasound and fine needle aspiration and then a few core biopsies taken from a lump in my armpit. I had a phonecall a week later confirming it was benign but that they had discussed at the MDT meeting and as one of the lymph nodes had a slightly unusual appearance they would like to remove it to test further that was almost 3 weeks ago and I feel like im constantly watching my phone for a call or checking the post no one knows except for my husband and my boss.  The nurse had stated it would be done within 1-2 weeks and would I be available for a cancellation I of course said yes.  I would be very grateful for anyone's help as I'm very anxious at present and just want to add my dad is currently in the final stages of pancreatic cancer also so I don't want to alarm my family unless needed

  • Hi Hopeful, just wanted to say that I hope you get your appointment through soon. Your team sound like they are doing a very thorough job and best wishes for the results xx

  • Hi Case4 thank you so much for your very kind reply I feel they are being very thorough just worried about the outcome I suppose and the waiting like everyone else I have been lurking on here for a while since finding the lump in January.  They only confirmed it was a lymph node after the ultrasound and said eventhough the core biopsy was benign they wanted to take it out to further investigate because of the appearance and they don't think they got enough tissue during the core biopsy so I'm still feeling like I didn't get that phew moment when they said it was benign still more investigations to go if you get me just wondering if anyone knows how long it usually takes for these appointments to come through and what your experience was at the end many thanks

  • Hi there I just wanted to update you and let you know I had surgery during the week and had 2 lymph nodes removed one was 2cm and the other was 3cm I have been given a 1 hour appointment for next week on Friday morning feeling a lot lighter now that the surgery is done and hoping the results are clear wishing all you lovely people all the best xxx

  • Hi Hopeful,

I am sorry to hear that you need more tests. It's frustrating at the moment, but good that your care team are taking no chances. I am glad to hear that you have now had your surgery and that you don't have too long to wait for the results. Here's hoping that they turn out to be benign too.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi laraj I had and excisional biopsy under general they weren't sure how many lymph nodes they had to take until they went in and ended up taking 2 the first biopsy I had back in end of march was benign but they weren't happy with it as they said the outline on ultrasound and mammogram was a little suspicious so they wanted to excise the 2 they took were 2cm and 3cm and have been feeling fine since the op not much pain at all and back for an hour long appointment on Friday morning for results so hopefully this will be benign too thanks so much for taking time out to reply and hope you are doing well xxx
