So my mum is 76 and her health has been a bit up and down recently (arthritis and joint pain) anyway I ended up taking her to the doctor and they did some routine blood tests. Turns out she was severely anemic and because she had been on powerful anti inflammatory pain relief tablets and has lost nearly 2 stone the doc wanted her to have a camera in for a look at the stomach. All stool and urine samples were negative for blood. Now my mum is petrified of needles and hospitals so she refused the camera therefore they opted for a CT scan with contrast. She went for the CT and within 5 days was asked to return to the hospital for the results. I went with her and they said they found 3 areas of concern! Firstly in her stomach there is mass or growth of 4cm there is also something in the kidney and the womb. She is now awaiting the camera procedure which is scheduled in 3 weeks so they can take biopsies of this 4cm growth. The nurse clinician said the doc was more than sure this growth was the cause of the anemia. I am beside myself with worry as is my mum and dad. I know nothing is concrete without the biopsy but I can't help feeling this will turn out to be cancer. Sorry for such a long post it's just been such a hectic 2 weeks.
