Mucus in stool and pain in lower left stomach and back

Hi I'm a 27 year old female and I am really worried. I do have health anxiety but it hasn't been as bad for a few months. About 5 weeks ago I started getting a pain in my lower left stomach and I was really concerned it was my ovary however when I went the doctors she told me that's were my bowel is and it is spasming because I am eating more due to my recovery from anorexia. The pain went away for a few days but has been back for last 2 weeks with mucus in my stool at first, now there is mucus in my stool and for 2 nights now on the run there is mucus when I wipe. I've been going to toilet more and they look soft and normal colour brown but there is mucus when I wipe. My uncle who is 69 was diagnosed with bowel cancer a few weeks ago and now I'm having these symptoms it's pushing me over the edge. He said he has been having spasms in his bowel. I just can't cope with the worry and stress. I'm seeing so many stories about bowel cancers and the different symptoms and that there isn't always blood but there can be mucus and now I am absolutely sick with worry. The mucus today when I wiped had a pink line init which I know is blood and I just can't cope with the worry. I had a fit test 14 months ago which came back normal but I know how much can change in that time. I used to take a laxative everyday until December 22 which i am worried has caused me to damage my bowel and caused bowel cancer. I am so sick with worry.

  • I'm sorry to hear about your symptoms and for the worry and stress they are causing.

I'm not sure from your post if you have been back to your GP since these changes occurred and the pain started up again, but if you haven't do make sure you let them know so they can investigate and let you know if any tests needs to be carried out.

I know it's difficult but if you can, try to stop yourself reading stories about bowel cancer as it will only fuel your worries and make your anxiety worse. I hope some of the tips and advice given for managing worry and stress on the NHS Every Mind Matters website will help but hopefully some of our members will be along soon to offer their support and advice as well.

We're thinking of you blondegirlx and will have our fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,
