Waiting for biopsy results

I have a lump in my neck and my GP originally suspected a thyroid cyst so referred me for an ultrasound. I went last Thursday and was given a biopsy there and then. I think he said it was in my salivary gland (I really can't remember as I just turned numb and didn't take anything in) but it definitely started with an 'S'.

While the doctor went to get my husband, the nurse told me this was the first time he had ever carried out a biopsy there and then as he usually makes a followup appointment - so this worried me as he was rushing it through.

I'm so worried waiting for the results, he told me between 1-2 weeks. I just feel like a zombie walking round not knowing where I am and trying to keep it together for my 2 young children. It's so hard waiting, especially as my mind is constantly thinking the worst.

My bloods have previously came back normal, but this lump has been there for a few months now.

I'm just so anxious waiting and trying to carry on as normal.

  • Hi Jenny10,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand this must all be concerning, particularly if it feels like it was rushed through. While that increases the worries, it is also good that the doctor acted quickly and that you'll hopefully get the results soon.

The uncertainty and waiting for information is never easy so I hope it's not long to wait for this. In the meantime try to keep busy and take things a day at a time.

Hopefully you'll get some more replies here soon. We're always here if you need it.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi Ben,

    Thank you for your reply.

I called my GP today for any updates. The receptionist said my provisional results came back yesterday but hadn't been reviewed yet so to call back tomorrow.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

    Thank you

  • Hi Jenny,

I’m in a similar situation, were your results clear in the end? I really hope they were.
