Very worried!

Ho everyone, I'm new to this. I am just very scared atm, 33 year old male with a 3 year old son. For 4 months have been having discomfort in my stomach, and really bad nausea that's relentless. I have fatty floating stools every stool since it started, sometimes very pale, and very bad smelling especially when it's darke3 in colour and more lose.  I have elastase level of 150, and the doctor won't pursue further as u had a clear CT scan. I have a lack of apetite and have lost 13kg in thus time..I can't see what else it can be other than pancreatic cancer. The gp tells me I had a ct scan and I need to wait to see specialist, it's been 4 months and I am seeing him next week.

Could there be any other reasons for these symptoms, and elastase test.

Thank you,

Dan

  • Hi Dan,

It could be pancreatitis or a bile duct/gall bladder problem. I'm a skin cancer patient but I've learned a lot about upper gastro problems recently. I first had my gall bladder removed due to infection and stones. Then a stray stone was found in my bile duct - it was removed via endoscopy but this caused acute pancreatitis. This caused malabsorption of food which manifested itself in the symptoms you are experiencing. I'm treated for pancreatic insufficiency with Creon capsules which helps break down the food and stops the stool problem and stomach pain.

Pancreatitis is caused by stones, alcohol, genetics or surgery (like me). It takes a while to diagnose but hopefully yours is this rather than pancreatic cancer. Good luck,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)
