Hard lump in breast

Hi, I'm 42 and couple of weeks ago I've noticed a hard lump in the upper quadrant of my right breast. Went to see a GP and was referred for an urgent appointment on the 18th. My doctor said it's about 2.5x2cm with smooth edges and moves a little but to be honest I really don't think it does...I am petrified that it could be cancer. The lump doesn't hurt which I think is a bad sign. How do you stay positive while waiting for an appointment? I'm a nervous wreck even breaking down in tears at work the other day. Any of you had a hard immovable lump that turned out not to be cancerous?

  • Hello lovely

  • Hi Hun. My cancer was found through routine mammogram so can't help on that part, but the process is long and frightening and the way I stay positive is to break it down in steps. Your first step was GP next Breast clinic appointment, but all the amount of worrying will not change the fact you need to go. As Lara has said only 2 of 10 are the BC but until you know assume it's a cyst. All BC are treatable and once you know what you are dealing with it does become easier to walk this path and see light at the end. Good luck keep us updated we are all here to listen and help if we can.  Sending hugs xx

  • Hi Hope85,

I am in the same boat, waiting for my breast clinic appointment. Trying to keep my anxiety in check but it's proving very difficult.

Whatever the lump may be, you are doing the absolute right thing by getting it checked out. Not long to go until the 18th now, so hopefully you'll get to the bottom of it soon. The waiting is the hard part, I think!

  • Lucky_11_ , it's so hard isn't it? When is your appointment? I'm keeping the fingers xd for both of us that it's nothing. Xx

  • Pauline21, thank you for the support. I'm sorry about your diagnosis. I know that my mind is my worst enemy in this case. Did you have any symptoms when diagnosed or was it just out of the blue? I will let you know about my appointment on Tuesday. Xx

  • Thank you laraj. I really appreciate your kind words. Xx

  • Hope

always here to help or chat or support I can't leave this chat my diagnosis was last July and I had so much support there I feel I can't leave I need to give back what was given to me here x

  • Hi Hun. No symptoms at all, cancer found by routine mammogram. Now been removed by WLE and now waiting results to see if all cancer was got before next treatment can start. X

  • Hi Hope, sorry you are here too! I found a hard lump in the lower quadrant at the end of March, I had a breast clinic appt on the 5th, had a mammogram, ultrasound and they took 3 biopsies, after that I had a consult with a dr and they gave me an appt to get my results on the 20th.  The waiting is destroying my mental health,  I am hoping that on the 20th they have a result and if it is "bad" that I'll get a treatment plan there and then but from reading through other posts think there may be a lot more waiting time yet!! I just want to know the facts really so I can inform my children (they are early twenties) and let them know what the score is! No one other than my partner currently knows any of this.  I'm 53.

  • Hi. Unfortunately if you are anything like me a plan helps and knowledge is power when dealing with BC. Unfortunately the treatment plan can be a bit vague. My was surgery on 28yh March , awaiting results still , then depending on results radiotherapy and hormone therapy at some point if chemonot needed but may need oncotype DX testing to check so very much still up in air. It only ever seems to be a rough plan. No dates or time scale. So good luck c
