Bc scare

Hi I've got an appointment with the breast clinic wed due to a lunp and tiny indent anyone been in my situation

  • Hi Ally,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

Sadly, many of us have been in the same situation. This is always a worrying wait, but only 2 people out of every 10 who attend the clinic, will get a cancer diagnosis. There are many other reasons for breast lumps besides cancer. Many people end up with benign cysts or fibromas.

You do not say what age you are, but the younger you are the less likely it is to be something sinister, although unfortunately, there are no guarantees. You will find the staff at the clinic are usually very pleasant and understanding.  You will first have a discussion with a consultant, about your symptoms and then undergo a physical examination of your breasts. The three tests carried out almost routinely at your first visit, are a mammogram, ultrasound and a biopsy. If you are under 40 you are unlikely to have a mammogram, as younger breasts tend to be denser and don't show up well on mammogram.

The biopsy tests for any cancer cells in your lump. You will then usually have a wait of between 1-2 weeks, to get the result of your biopsy and a diagnosis. Your first visit can take between 1-4 hours, whilst you wait to have these tests.

I sincerely hope that all goes well for you and that nothing untoward is found. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi thank you for you're response I'm 46 years old and the doctor did mention a biopsy because of the dimple

    Hi Ally,

We're all nervous and scared at this stage - it's only natural. The other problem is that our over-imaginative imaginations tend to run into overdrive. I'm glad to hear that you don't have much longer to wait until you get your appointment. Irrespective of the outcome, you'll feel better once you know what you're dealing with. The unknown is an awful stage to cope with.

I'll be thinking of you on Wednesday. Please let us know how you get on.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Ally, just to say I hope everything goes well at the clinic. My experience of the clinic was very positive - as Jolamine says, the examination is very thorough and you will be in good hands. There's no denying it's all a bit terrifying but you are doing the right thing getting it checked and most people do not get a cancer diagnosis xx

  • Hi Ally, Jolamine and Case4 have already given you excellent information. I would just add that it's best to have someone with you and drive you to your appointment. Firstly, it wouldn't be wise to drive if you are feeling anxious, and having someone with you for support is helpful. I was in your shoes last year and I was so well looked after at the breast clinic. Wishing you all the best for Wednesday. Love, Amy xx

  • Thank you so much for you're reply how did you go on I hope it was a good outcome xx

  • Thank you so much I will keep you updated xx

  • Thank you so much it's nice go chat and offload you're feelings my thoughts have been unbelievable and I've cried at every little thing I'm not ready to leave my family and my 2 gorgeous young grandchildren xx

    Hi Ally,

I felt like this about my children, when I was first diagnosed. Since then I have seen them leave school, go to university, graduate, find gainful employment, marry and provide me with 2 precious and beautiful granddaughters. This is all despite having 2 bouts, a year apart. That was all 13 years ago now and I still enjoy a busy and fulfilling life. I'm sure that you will too.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
