Appt with Breast Surgery Service to receive biopsy results

I suspect I am over thinking this but my appt to receive results of my recent biopsy is with the Breast Surgery Service, does this mean I'm having an operation to remove the 2cm lump I found or is it normal that this is the team that gives you your results whether cancer is found or not?  I feel like a step has been missed, that I should be having an appt to discuss the results and then to discuss treatment if required. I feel I have been given a diagnosis without being given an actual diagnosis.  Got another 9 days to wait :(  With every little ache and pain I get now I imagine I'm riddled with it. 9 more days....

  • Hi Toot

My understanding is that there is the surgical team and the medical oncology team. My initial appointment after finding a lump was with the surgical team, when I had a mammogram, ultrasound, biopsies, etc, then I saw one of the breast surgeons. My diagnosis was delivered by the breast surgeon who explained in broad terms what the treatment plan would be. Then I had a meeting with the medical oncologist who explained the chemotherapy treatment I would have before surgery.

Different NHS Trusts/Hospitals use different terminology. Mine is called the Breast Unit, yours is the Breast Surgery Service. I imagine your appointment will be to get your results and details of any treatment necessary. I don't think any stage has been/will be missed.

I am thinking of you. I know how stressful the waiting is. Try to keep busy and distracted. Go for a walk every day, which will really help boost your mood and help you sleep better.

Do let us know how you get on, and we're all here to help in the meantime.

    God bless

    Amy xx
