Breast dimple

I have been under the breast clinic for a few months due to dense breast tissue. Lumpy breasts. They have been monitoring them and have found nothing alarming. I am 47 peri nearly menopausal.  Last week I lifted my arm and saw a dimple only visible with my arm raised. I managed to get seen by the breast consultant that same week who has now forwarded me for a mammogram and ultra scan.  My last mammogram was this time last year and about 3 ultra scans last being November which showed no changes.

My sister died this morning in a hospice from bowel cancer so my anxiety about cancer has escalated and I'm now a wreck. The consultant said to me from her professional eye she would expect to see more symptoms other than a dimple for the aggressive type which can involve a dimple. Like rash and orange peel texture.

I am clinging to that. Its a scary time having just watched cancer wreck my sisters 50 year old body.

Any one else ever had a dimple and it was not cancer x

  • Hi Mabellouise,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

First of all, may I say how very sorry to hear of your sister's passing. I lost my mum to secondary breast cancer before I was given my first cancer diagnosis and was absolutely terrified when I was later diagnosed with this. I had a second bout the following year, but here I am 13 years on and still leading a busy and fulfilling life. Fortunately, not all familial cancers are the same.

I don't know what age you are, but I understand that younger breasts tend to be denser and that many women have naturally lumpy breasts. It is a fact that only 2 people, out of every 10 who visit the breast clinic, will get a cancer diagnosis. There are a number of other reasons for breast changes. Here's hoping that your mammogram and ultrasound continue to find nothing untoward. Chances are that this will be the most likely outcome, when you have had both of these tests so recently.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
