Duct Excision

Good Morning All and Happy Easter!

About 3 weeks ago I noticed a bloody discharge from my left nipple. I saw my GP who referred me to the Breast Clinic under a 2 week wait.

I had my appointment which was a mammogram, an examination when a sample of the discharge was taken on a slide, and an ultrasound scan. No lumps were found and the mammogram and scan were clear. A week later the Dr called with the results of the smear - they think it's from a polyp-like growth. I am booked in for surgery on 4th May for duct excision. Very worried about it all. Would a polyp not have shown up on the scan?

What can I expect recovery wise? Should I buy a non-wired bra?

Thank you

Sophy

  • Hi l have had duct ectasia the ducts kept leaking, becoming infected, red and

sore after lots of operations to remove the affected ducts.

I had a reduction in order to remove as many ducts as possible. It's been much better,

l wear M&S post surgery bras they have soft cups no wires and slightly wider sides,  we don't pay vat so they are quite reasonable. The most comfortable at the moment are the ones that look like Bra tops.
l would buy one preop easier than when wearing dressings.
do let me know if I can help

  • Hi Susie

Thank you so much for your reply. That's very helpful re the bras. Are you all recovered now? Xx

  • Hi Soph0506

I am so much better following the reduction it still gets a bit sore but l have only had couple of red patches and antibiotics.
Fortunately  my biopsies have all been clear of cancer. The breast clinic says that each mammogram is a snapshot of the day and to return if you have new symptoms.
    take care
