Armpit lump

Hi there looking for some advice. I discovered a lump in my right armpit last week. It is painless and firm. I was actually at the breast clinic a few months ago regarding pain in my right breast. I get flare ups that last for a few months and stop me from being able to do sport etc.

I felt like a complete time waster when I was there as they said they aren't interested in pain, at the time I wasn't suspicious of it being cancer I was just hoping for answers of why the pain flares and becomes really quite debilitating at times.

I'm really reluctant to go back regarding the lump incase they think I'm just completely over reacting.

from google it seems an armpit lump is rarely something to worry about it's in the centre of my armpit and can be felt when standing or lying. Has anyone had anything similar?

  • Hi sorry, can't say I have had anything similar.  Your not a time waster, Shocked that clinic did not at least do a mammogram. If Gp referred  return to G P I think she might refer to another specialist. Hope things improve.pip

  • I've got an armpit lump - mine is quite low in the arm pit and partially into breast tissue, which they said was more unusual as it would normally be more central in the armpit. Do go and see your GP and get it checked out. I had an ultrasound and it was confirmed as a lipoma. The lump itself is painless and firm but I do get nerve pain into the breast sometimes or sometimes in my side. Apparently there are a lot of nerve endings in that area. They said leaving it alone was the best option for me.

Don't worry about if they think you are over- reacting. Get the lump in your armpit checked out and good luck

  • Hi Krst01,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am not a doctor, but I understand that pain seldom accompanies a cancer diagnosis and is more likely to be associated with your monthly cycle. If this lump is a new symptom, you should get it checked out as soon as possible. You will not be wasting anybody's time, as we are always advised to get any new symptoms checked out.

Please try to steer clear of "Dr Google" whilst you are waiting for your appointment, as much of the information is out of date, poorly researched and aimed at the more spectacular cases. The only purpose it will solve, is to scare you even more!

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • HI Leni56,

I am delighted to hear that your ultrasound confirmed that your lump was only a lipoma and that no further treatment was required.

I'm sure that this must be a great relief for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Comment you made about re google is spot on. I think we should stick to the research, charities and nhs and maybe a tiny bit of Wikipedia . But most of all the breast health clinics and face to face pros such as the drs n hospitals we go to.

    Google can be scary!!
