Possible Melanoma

Hi,

A couple of months ago I spotted an odd mole on my back that was ireegular.

I have had about 4 appointments and finally had my biopsy done via a punch tool 8mm diameter.

I was told I would hear back within 6-8 weeks but sooner if there is cause for concern. I also received a confirmation appointment 7 weeks from my biopsy date without any explanation as to what the appointment is about and why I already have another even though I had it removed the same day of booking.

does anyone have an idea if it will really take 6-8 weeks even with good news and how long it will take if it is melanoma. Also what this new appointment will be in relation to?

Thanks

  • Hi,

Sorry you are awaiting your results. Sadly current waiting times for results can take between 6 and 12 weeks depending on each hospital trust area. The fact they have given you an appointment for 7 weeks time tells me that they are anticipating your results will be available by then. Some consultants prefer to see patients for all results, whether good or bad, whilst a minority give good results by phone or letter. Again, it's a lottery. If I were you I would assume that the 7 week appointment is where your results will be given but be aware that they could contact you sooner.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on.
