Chin lump - scared

Hello,

A brief as possible background - I've had on and off bouts of illness for around 4-5 months now. A mixture of colds, flu and sinus infections. Which is very unlike me.

About two months ago I had a cold and after that noticed that I had a small lump on my neck, pretty much right under my chin. It went down slightly over the next week and assumed it was to do with my illness.

However a month or so later the lump was still there so I booked a GP appointment. GP had a look at it but didn't seem interested, she said she couldn't feel it even though I could feel it when I was pointing it out, which made me feel a little silly. I also told them about my recent illness problems and they just said that some years you're more sick than normal. The GP at the time was busy and I head them say they were a few doctors down due to Covid.

The lump is still there, I checked today and if I slightly push down I can actually hold it between my finger and thumb, it's around 1-2cm wide, it's pretty firm and there's no pain.

I guess I'm writing here to see if anyone has anything similar? And whether I should try and book another doctors appointment.? I'm obviously worried about it and would like a doctor to actually feel it and tell me what it is. But also don't want to be a burden on my already busy GP surgery.

  • Hello Buckbeak,

You won't be a burden on your GP surgery and if you feel this GP didn't have a proper look at it and didn't seem interested, I think it would be a good idea to get another doctor to have a look and actually feel it and give you the reassurance you need. So do call your surgery and try and see a different doctor just for peace of mind. You can find out more about how to get a second opinion on this page

I hope you manage to speak to someone about this soon and that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello

I am in a similar situation so just wondering if you went back to see the GP at all?

  • Hey,

No I haven't been back yet. I can still feel it albeit it is small.

I think I'll give it a few more weeks and if it's still there I might try and get a second opinion, seeing as the first doctor said they couldn't feel it at all. So would be peace of mind if they could actually feel it and give an answer.

I'd recommend booking an appointment though, best to check and also peace of mind for you. Keep me updated with how you get on!
