Multiple neck lumps

I've found another lump on my neck. This is 5th one in 1 year and the 2nd one in 2 months, everytime I go to the GP about this they just tell me I probably had an infection of some sort but I have never been ill any time these lumps appeared. I'm going to get the new one checked out but I so worried and angry that this is happening. I'm worried as well that the doctor will just tell me the same thing again that it's a virus. I need to know why this is happening, I don't know what do.

  • Hello nyotauh,

Thank you for posting. I see from your post that you are worried about some symptoms you have. The best thing to do is to go and see your doctor about these problems.

When you are worried that you may have cancer, it can be tempting to look for answers on an online forum, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. And the only person that can diagnose you is your doctor.

    I hope this is helpful.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Nyotauh,

I don't think it's fair that they just assume it's a virus if you've not felt unwell. I found that the fear of the dr ignoring my symptoms was the worst part of it so I really really empathise with you. I would go back and just insist that you haven't felt unwell whatsosever and that new lumps are appearing and that should be taken into consideration.

    good luck.

  • I have had/have multiple lumps in my neck. One is a brachial cyst, one is a benign lymph node that is ALWAYS there and one is benign lump on my thyroid. All of these have been scanned multiple times and are no cause for concern. When I got the third lump I thought there was no way it could be benign, but turns out I was wrong.

keep pushing your doctors to refer you to ENT for peace of mind X

  • Just wanted to update everyone: I saw the doctor today who had a feel of them and said "I want to reassure you it's nothing serious" so I'm feeling a lot better. He said the ones in the front of my neck may be muscle or ligament and the one behind my ear that has never gone away is actually probably a cyst! He told me to just watch out for other symptoms like night sweats, weight loss, and if it gets bigger. I'm feeling a lot better! :)
