Breast lump

Hi everyone, first time posting here. I found a lump a year ago and went to my GP who wasn't concerned and said if it grew to go back, but she wasn't worried as I was only 29 at the time. I've now noticed the lump has grew what feels like quite alot. I was at the GP today and she has made an urgent referral to the breast clinic but said she thinks it's likely to be a cyst as it's smooth and movable. She also said it was about 7mm by 5mm is this big for a lump? I'm worried that it this is something bad that it's been left for a year. Sorry for the ramble I'm just very worried as I have 2 young children and only 30.

  • Hello Soph93

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some concerns about your breast health over the past year. It's good to hear that you've already seen your GP and that following the recent changes they have now referred you to see a specialist.

We know that for many people, this period of waiting for appointments and tests can be difficult. it may help to keep in mind that the large majority of people seen at breast clinics do not go on to be diagnosed with cancer.

It can often help to talk things through with someone and I wonder if you might find it useful to chat through your concerns with one of our nurses. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice, information, and support they can ahead of your appointment. If you'd like to chat with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope you have some news soon Soph. Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
