Concerned

I have been having testing for recurrent infections, blood in stool, bleeding between periods and after sex, abdominal pain, chest pain and night sweats.

My white blood cell count, platelet count and C reactive protein are high.

I've just received my Faecal Calprotectin results which are 1200 ug/ g (normal is apparently <50)

My notes say consider urgent referral and the doctor has asked me to call to make an appointment, I've been booked in for a telephone appointment later in the week but I'm going out of my mind with worry.

Guess I just wondered if anyone has any words of comfort/ similar experience.

  • Hello rdscared,

Please try not to worry. It's encouraging that your results came back normal. I hope your appointment this week goes ok and don't be afraid to ask questions. There are some useful tips here for when you're waiting for an appointment or results.

  • Hey RD,

Hopefully you've had your call with the Gp by now? How did it go? Sorry to hear you're having these symptoms and haven't got any clarity yet. I can't offer much wisdom I'm afraid, I came on here because of night sweats and swollen lymph nodes in my neck, I also have pain during sex and irregular bleeding which I didn't even mention to the gp as I hadn't even considered it to be linked, but I'm seeing her tomorrow to tell her that too. Meanwhile I'm waiting for a CT scan on my neck to look at the swollen nodes.

feel free to update me if you need someone to talk to.

  • Hey AbiD,

The GP put in an urgent referral , I was supposed to have been offered an appointment by yesterday but when I called the hospital department, they said that I'm on the high priority waiting list but they don't have any appointments! The receptionist had no idea when they might have an opening which has greatly increased my anxiety

how're you getting on? Sending good thoughts xx

  • Oh bless you I really feel your pain, not knowing when you'll be seen is by far the worst thing. Perhaps call them every morning in case they've had a cancellation? Might also get them to get a move on? My dad had to do this to get his operation booked in cos they just left it months and months after they told him he would be in, he finally got p***** and insisted and they sorted him out. I really hope you get your appointment soon.

I've had a CT scan which found more swollen lymph nodes throughout my neck but they're not too big, and a nodule on my thyroid, waiting for my follow up with the ENT to see if they want to biopsy or not and what all the results mean.
