Lump under nipple

Hi,

About a week ago I was having pain in my left breast that wouldn't go away for about 2 days then on Thursday I found a lump under my nipple the size of a small marble, it feels quite deep down not visible, it's a hard lump with no pain at all

I went to the doctors on Friday and have a 2WW the doctor was absolutely lovely and said he thinks it's a duct but is sending me for a 2 week referral because he knows I wouldn't want to wait any longer, I can't help but feel like he was saying this to try and not panic me as I never mentioned anything about waiting and I'd only just found this

im hoping to get my referral in the next few days so I atleast know a date, i'm 33 with 2 children and im feeling really scared

has anyone else had a lump here and how was the outcome

  • Hi,

I had something very similar a few years ago, the doctors kept telling me it was very unlikely to be anything serious but I felt as though they were just trying to keep me positive. I was referred, had an ultrasound and was told it was just liquid and nothing to worry about. It disappeared in about two days! I've found with a few things, the majority of medical staff will try and be positive but they will also be honest when they are, or are not concerned.

    Take care x

  • Hi,

Not much help sorry, but just wanted to say I'm going through something similar. I've been referred today by my GP for a lump next to my nipple. GP said she thinks it's a cyst but doesn't stop me worrying. I'm 30 and also have 2 young children so know how worried you will be feeling. Fingers crossed we both get positive outcomes

  • Hi,

I had a call today, my appointment is on the 11th so atleast I don't have to wait too long, yes as much as everyone keeps saying it could be nothing it's still such a horrible worry, I really hope you have a good outcome too xx

  • Hi, so happy to hear yours was good news previously, the doctor didn't say much just advised it could be duct but would like it checked, I wake up in the morning and hope it's gone, not long to wait now then hopefully my mind can then rest xx

  • Hi I'm glad you don't have long to wait, hopefully I get my appointment soon. The worry is awful I feel like I can't think about anything else. Keep us updated with how your appointment goes xx

  • Hi, have you had a date for your appointment x

  • Hi, no not yet. I'm guessing I'll have a little longer wait with it being Easter.

My Dr did say to give them a ring Tuesday if I haven't heard anything by then so I'll do that xx

  • Hi KS9,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am glad to hear that you have a date at last. This is always a worrying time, but here's hoping that nothing untoward is found. It is a fact that only 2 people, out of every 10 who visit the breast clinic, will get a cancer diagnosis and the younger you are, the less likely this is to happen. There are many other reasons for breast lumps.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I too discovered a lump Wednesday and have the same thoughts as you have about the GP not being honest. After reading on here and many other places the GP is not allowed to give you false hope.

They either remain neutral or honestly say they are concerned.

Mine too said they weren't concerned and we have to remember any lumps are automatically referred now. The guidelines have changed dramatically for GPs and even if they are sure it's nothing they still have to refer to the 2WW clinic

    Hi Dottidoo,

Doctors tend to be quite open about anything that looks suspicious, but best practice is to refer you to the breast clinic to get any changes checked out.

    Kind regards,
