MRI after CT scan

I've been recently diagnosed with a pancreatic insufficiency and I have had a CT scan to check my pancreas but after my scan they said I need a mri scan but I wasn't told why. My consultant only asked for a CT but the technicians said they have referred me for a MRI scan. So now I'm worried they have found something

  • Hello Lprior2614,

I hope the MRI scan goes ok and don't be afraid to ask questions or make notes, if that makes it easier to take things in. You can read about what to expect at the scan here, which I hope will help you feel more prepared.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi,

I'm just another patient, but I've been around the block a few times.

It's just as likely that the CT scan was invonclusive and someone has decided to order an MRI as this might give a better idea of your condition.

If you have been given a named nurse, give them a ring, say what's worrying you and ask why you've been referred for an MRI. If not, try contacting you consultant's medical scretary (the hospital switchboard will put you through) and ask the same question.

    Good luck

  • Hi

They said after I got out the scanner that there was abnormalities on my scan so they have referred me for a MRI but they didn't do what was wrong with it. I'm nervous as they look for pancreatic cancer and I'm only 24 im so scared and I got a feeling something is wrong by the tone of the person's voice when they spoke to me.

  • I had CT scan of the pancreas following rising ca 19.9 levels and then subsequently was referred for a MRI and then also for a gastroscopy . I was told a variety of scans help with assessing exactly what is going on. In my case, as yet, no answers
