2WW - positive fit test, awaiting my appt. Feeling worried

Hello everyone - I am in a bit of a sad and uncertain place.

I went to my GP a couple of weeks ago as I have had lower abdominal pain for more a couple of months. I have a familial history of cancer (lost sister and aunties to stomach, colorectal and breast). Doctor booked me in for bloods and a FIT. The bloods came back fine (which is a relief) but the FIT was positive.

The pain comes and goes. If I am lying down and get up, when I engage my core to get up the pain comes e.g. when I probably apply a pinching force to my intestinal area. The pain is on the right side in line with the where I would think my cesum is.

With my family history, I last had a colonoscopy in 2019 which was clear and there were no polyps. However, due to the positive FIT I have been referred on the 2 week pathway and am waiting to get an appointment.

Other than the pain and the positive FIT, I do not have any other symptoms, I am very fit (I am training for a marathon and for example ran 75km last week), I have no fatigue, I eat like a horse, I do not drink, I do not smoke, I have gained weight (2lb) since the start of the year, I have regular movents, I do no have any bloating or night sweats or anything. However, I am very worried about what they might find and the waiting is very hard to deal with.

  • Hi!  I know it's hard but try not to worry. I am 34, have a lot more symptoms than you described, significant family history and clear blood results but positive FIT test, and have my colonoscopy booked for next Saturday under the 2 week rule. The colorectal nurse has called me a couple times and reassured me that I would have to be extremely unlucky at my age to have cancer but they wanted to make sure they didn't miss anything anyway, hence the colonoscopy.
the good thing is even if they find something, it doesn't necessarily mean cancer. There are a lot of things that can cause the same symptoms.
Personally, im a do-er, so mentally I tend to not worry unless there's something to worry about, and at the moment there isn't as I don't know anything, and then if something does come up, I will convert the worry into 'what do we do about this now, how do we fix this'- if that makes sense xx

  • Thanks for the kind words.. Your attitude is a good one - I think the same way.

I have my colonoscopy booked in for Thursday 6th now. So not long to wait.
