Scan anxiety

Hello,

Just hoping to find some advice or comfort. I went to the doctor in October 2022 as having really heavy periods and passing multiple clots throughout. Regularly going through clothes. I asked for an ultrasound due to my  family history, my Dad's side has various cancers throughout. My main concerns are  I had an aunt with Colon, a cousin with breast and another with either ovarian or cervical. The cousins were both diagnosed in their 30s, I am 30 now. This is why I was keen to have any abnormal bleeding investigated.

In December I had 2-3 weeks with a strange sharp, at times, but constantly dull pain in the lower right of my abdomen. This faded but I do occasionally get twinges in that area. The doctor done bloods for anemia specifically, not sure what else but said my white cells were just a bit low and to go back in 6 months.

I finally got my ultrasound a couple of weeks ago, an external and a transvaginal. I had to wait a little to speak with the doctor who had already referred me to gynae and for an MRI, as ugent. There are apparently fibroids that are 'unusual' but not sure why, and adenomyosis was mentioned. However the doctor did say they would need to rule out anything else when I asked if it could indicate cancer. I was stunned to have had a referral elsewhere done that I went blank on the phone. I can't get another appointment for a couple of weeks with my doctor to ask more and the gynae letter came through within 2 weeks of referral with a contact number but I've not had a call back as yet. My MRI is on the 21st but I want to know more about what seemed unusual to stop my mind worrying.

I am writing this today as I got up to pee and had to hold on to the bath as the pain shooting across my abdomen was awful. And lingered for around 25minutes, I checked my period tracker app and it could be caused by ovulation, but that's new for me.

Without the family history I'd maybe feel more settled but right now I can't shake the anxiety and have so many questions.

  • As I noticed that you're new here and that no one replied to your post yet, SMitch05, I wanted to stop by and welcome you to our forum.

I'm sorry to hear that you have been feeling poorly but I'm glad you're having your symptoms investigated by the doctors.

With so much that has been going on it's only normal that you feel a bit anxious. Hopefully other Cancer Chat members who have been through something similar will pop here soon to share their experiences with you and offer support. Until they do feel free to join the conversations that are already taking place.

You mentioned your next appointment will take at least two weeks but once you know more please keep us updated.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Renata, Cancer Chat Moderator
