Scared to keep bothering GP

I am 50 and previously posted a couple of weeks ago with ongoing gynae problems that I am on a never ending waiting list for. My post will be long but I'm just desperate at this point for some advice.
I haven't been able to work for a few weeks due to increasing pain in pelvis, lower back, hip and top of thigh. I had an 'over the belly ultrasound'( no tranvaginal ultrasound) in October of last year. Report went back to GP within a few days stating fibroids and referred me to gynae as urgent. When I phoned GP in December I found out it hadn't been flagged as urgent but now would be. Still waiting and within last 4 weeks my pain has increased so that I'm not sleeping and when I am I am jolted awake with pain in lower back, pelvis and upper thigh.

When my pain worsened I was initially given a phone consultation with GP who diagnosed sciatica, given gabapentin, I have since had 2 face to face appointments, no physical examination at any point during this whole process, telling me she would try and chase up gynae referral process... still haven't heard anything. In the last few days my left upper thigh is so much noticeably bigger than my right but I'm sat here dreading ringing the Doctors to let them know of this, and of my increasing pain, because, even though I've never been someone who has been at doctors often before this, I feel like I'm wearing the GP's patience thin!
Sorry for long post but hoping for some advice.
As an edit my GP also found visible lymph nodes in neck and tested for thyroid. This came back normal and I asked why there were lumps and she couldn't say.

  • Hello N1234x,

Lumps can occur for all sorts of reasons and it's encouraging that the tests came back normal. I'm sorry about the pains you've been having. Please don't hesitate to contact your GP about these pains and the swelling in your left thigh. You're not bothering anyone or wearing anyone's patience, as they are there to listen and to help you.

When you’re worried that you may have cancer, it can be tempting to think the worst, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. And the best thing to do is to speak to your GP. If you're looking for more information on sciatica and ways of coping, you can read more here.

    I hope this helps,

  • Do bother them! I had years of 'womanly problems' which actually turned out to be due to my appendix being wrapped around my bowel - as soon as I had it removed due to appendicitis all the bleeding, stomach pains, upset tummy's, stupid amount of weight loss stopped. Funny that the blood test they did to see if I had appendicitis came back fine but went in to check things anyway and turned out my Appendix would have ruptured if they hadn't gone in and removed it! It took me about two years to finally be rid of the problems with being constantly dismissed, being told ' it might just be how you are'. You know your body the best if you feel something isn't right you're entitled to pester. Sometimes drs miss things and it really does depend on who you get and what their speciality is. You could always go to a minor injuries clinic if you're really worried about swelling of any form if you feel like your gp isn't doing enough. Take care xx

  • Thank you Moderator Anastasia and also [@luckyleft1]‍.
I DID bother GP again today, was worried to do so but did!
I saw another GP today, he has been at the practise the longest. He is sending me for an X-ray of hip and thigh bone tomorrow.
I asked if my urgent referral with gynae had been chased up... It hadn't, he showed me on screen that the other doctor had made a note to... but hadn't actually made the phone call. He has promised this will be done today. I asked if I could ring surgery next week to check if it had been done this time and he said I could.
I found out I have been referred to ENT for the 2 small lumps in my neck after blood check showed no thyroid problems.
I still feel when I'm in front of my GP that I hold back from giving full list of symptoms or how bad pain is for fear of seeming over emotional/ hypochondriac! I also just want to get in and out as soon as possible for fear of crying through being so overtired with being kept awake with pain in pelvis, back and hip... I should write it down to him like I just have here! I did actually remember to tell him about sweating so much in the night but he said that's probably down to being close to the menopause even though I show no other signs of this. X

  • Aw I'm glad they're doing the leg work now but really do hope you're all ok! I have my two weeek wait appointment tomorrow which after Googling my head off the last two weeks I am sure it'll probably be nothing ( hopefully ! ) take care!

  • Hiya, how are you doing have u got any further with ur doc

  • Hi, [@luckyleft1]‍ and also [@Mario11]‍.
Thank you for asking. The GP had sent me for an X-ray on thigh for the following day and is also chasing up referral with gynae. X-ray results will go to GP within 2 weeks.
Luckyleft1, am I okay to ask what your concerns are regarding your referral? How did your appointment go? Hope you're ok.

  • Hey, sorry I only just saw this! Mine is for swelling in my jaw and neck but also been having some scans on my collarbone. It's been a week and nothing yet but their mdt meetings are Fridays so, maybe next week or the following I will hear something. Hope you're ok too! Take care x
