Skin cancer

I've had a new mole/brown patch on my face for about a year. Finally got it looked at today by the gp and he has referred me to be seen within 2 weeks by the skin clinic. He said it is ragged and slightly discoloured and measuring about 5mm. Came home and tried to book an appointment with the clinic but it says no appointments available! I emailed them (as it said to do) and have to wait for a phone call. If not heard within 48 hours I can then call them. 48 hours! I'm going out of my mind with worry. The worst thing I did was Google it to learn that 2 weeks wait means I've been fast tracked. What can I expect when I do get an appointment?

  • Hi Dan and welcome to the forum.

I can see the 48 hour wait ends today, so I hope they're able to book you an appointment when you get back in touch with them.

Many of our members have been through this process, so you are not alone, and hopefully some of them will share their skin clinic experiences with you soon.

We also have a very supportive team of nurses you can discuss this with on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

In regards to the two week referral, I hope it helps to know that 9 our of 10 people who are referred this way are not diagnosed with cancer. I know this won't take the worry away but I hope it will help to ease your mind slightly whilst you wait. You can find out more about this type of referral on our website.

We're thinking of you Dan and will have our fingers crossed for a good outcome.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you so much for your reply and kind words. I have called today and it is just a recorded message saying someone will be in touch with an appointment within 2 weeks. Waiting is the hardest part.
