28 years old and been set for a urgent referral for cancer

I went to the doctors on Wednesday with lumps and swelling in my vagina the doctor told me straight away she's sending me for a urgent referral for a biopsy and worse case scenario it could be cancer.

the next day I received a letter saying sending for a referral as concerned I have a serious illness-cancer. if I haven't heard by the 27th March to contact them. That means it would of been 5 days even though it's a "2 weeks rule" I'm really starting to worry. I have had these symptoms for years and being going to the doctors about it for years but they just put it down to infections. I'm just so scared because I have a baby he's 9 months and I'm a single person. I dread to think he would grow up with no parents and not even remembering me. I can't help but think of the worse

  • Hi, try not to overthink hun. I know it's not easy but there's so many other things it could also be.
I'm currently waiting on biopsy results and I understand this waiting/unknowing part is the worst.
Always here if you need a chat

  • Thankyou so much for your reply!

I'm trying my best not to worry about it .. I did see a post saying 9 out of 10 patient referred end up not having cancer so that's made me feel a little bit better. It's just the way the doctor didn't say anything else other than cancer. A way to scare a young mum but hopefully it will all be okay. I pray you get good results and it's not serious ️

  • It's scary hearing that word isn't it! Think it's just the quickest route to get you seen, it's more to rule it out than they actually think you have got cancer...I think?
hopefully you hear Monday, do you have the NHS app? A lot of people have seen appointments on there before they receive a letter.
    Fingers crossed for you xx

  • Hi hun,

yeah I suppose it is to rule it out. I'm just gonna stop worrying focus on my little man til I know more. The worry isn't gonna help! I haven't got the nhs app but I'll download it now thankyou! Let me know how you get on. Again thankyou for your replies xx

  • I will do hun, let me know how it goes for you too.
I'm sure you're little one will be keeping you busy so hopefully the time flys by.
I have a 3 year old and shes full on from 6am till 7pm.
    Xx

  • Similar boat but for swelling in my jaw. Hopefully all will be ok for us both. I think we all presume the worst is going to happen! I got my two week appointment the following working day, it depends on what day they have their clinic. Take care and all the best ♥️

  • Hey,

Surprisingly I went to the emergency dentist a few days before the doctors,I've been sent to a oral specialist because I've suffered really bad pain in my jaw because of tooth decay I have toothache most days and sore jaw and feel like my glands in my neck are swollen too. It could just be a coincidence though..

Okay the whole rush thing makes me feel less anxious if everyone gets that letter rapid. It's just scary seeing a letter like that! How old are you if you don't mind me asking?

thankyou, means a lot,  I hope for us all it's good news and I wish you all the best   ️

  • Aw gosh sounds like everything's hit you at once. Try and take it easy that doesn't sound fun at all :-( I'm not in pain so at least that is something. Funny though I had just put it down to getting older ( 27 at the moment ) but saw the dr for shoulder pain and he noticed it - which at least made me feel like it wasn't in my head - I had just ignored it after noticing my ' good side ' in photos wasn't so good anymore haha. Yes the world isn't a fab place at the best of times and you don't realise how important your health is until you don't have that. Do really hope you're all ok with everything going on. You're strong remember that ♥️
