New mole very worried

Last night I noticed a new mole has appeared at the bottom of my back. I'm 31 and have many moles, but this one is definitely new. It looks normal in shape and size but is a darker shade than my other moles, albeit all one colour in itself. It is flat and doesn't itch. Should any new mole be checked out in adulthood? I'm a nervous wreck!

  • Hi,

It's perfectly normal for new moles to appear and old moles to disappear up to the age of 40. After that, they are treated a little more suspiciously.

For your peace of mind I would take a photo of it and do the same again every 2 weeks for 6 to 8 weeks. Put a ruler by the side of the mole. In this way you can monitor if there are any changes in the size, colour and shape. If there are any changes then see your GP. If it doesn't change, just keep an eye on it monthly for a few more months. Hopefully it's just a new, benign mole.
