Waiting on breast clinic results

Hi I found a lump just above my nipple 3 weeks ago and went to the doctor thinking she would say it was fine but she said she would send an urgent referral to the breast clinic ,during the 2 week wait my lump seemed to be less invasive as if it had got smaller , went to clinic on Monday and consultant said it was smaller then the doctor had indicated but would still get a mammogram and ultrasound to make sure , ultrasound consultant said their was a thickening at the area but he couldn't say what it was , said it may have been a cyst that had erupted as I had other cysts in my breast but as he was unsure would take biopsy, went back to consultant who said the mammogram and ultrasound had picked up the thickening at same area but she had a low level of concern and I would get my biopsy results next Thursday, I am trying to stay positive but still got that doubt at the back of my mind and had a *** morning today about it , have anyone had similar issues please about the lump getting smalller , thanks.

  • Hi Vonnie

    i have something very similar.
I'm not sure of your age but I am 33 and had a really hard lump which I noticed last Friday. I immediately went to the doctor, like you expecting it to be dismissed by the doctor, but she looked worried and said oh yes there is a hard patch/lump there and referred me to the hospital. Anyway fast forward a week and it seems to have got smaller and less hard and if anything more moveable. (I hope!)

I keep calling and they've still not booked me in for a date for a mammogram/ultrasound... they said that the doctor didn't send the referral through properly the first time... this is not helpful to me and we can't afford to go private.

I'm hopeful that it doesn't feel as prominent as it was but i can't tell whether it's flat or rounded. I've been living with the anxiety now for a week which has seemed like a lifetime.

they said they'd call me by Friday but not heard anything yet and I don't trust when they will as they've been exceptionally slow so far...

  • Thanks for your reply, im 48 , hopefully it is just a cyst that has erupted, if I were you I would get on to the hospital and ask them if an appointment has been made for you yet as the anxiety just waiting is terrible, hopefully for both of us the fact that they have got smaller is a good thing , take care and I hope your wait isn't too long now.

  • I've called them three times this week already! I think they're just being slow.
im positive that if they were more sinister they wouldn't be getting smaller but still I can't help but have that worry at the back of my mind! Two of my friends have had breast cancer (both now recovered and have been in remission for 8 and 12 years respectively) so it doesn't help my worries about it. But equally I've read about a lot of women who have had things that are benign too!
