Trying to stay calm

Good morning,

I am approaching my 56th birthday and have just had a 21 day period with extremely heavy clotting.

My periods through perimenopause have been heavy and it was discovered over 5 years ago that I had fybroids.

My periods are getting less, this year 1 to date, last year 3 and the year before 4.

This one has been extremely heavy and blood tests have proven anemia which has happened before, how when they checked my blood they did a check for CA-125.  This has come back raised and I am now being fast tracked for a scan.  They rang this morning and its next Wednesday.

I am trying to remain calm, I am not a panicky person but the constant feeling of sickness I have had since the doctor rang yesterday morning is making me anxious.

I have read abou the CA-125 test and i understand that it could be the fybroids that are raising it.

Just wandered if anyone has any similar experiences to share.

Thank you for reading.

  • Hi

I don't have personal experience of this but my mum suffered from hordendous fibroids during menopause. She looked 9 months pregnant and would bleed so heavy that she bled through all pads, tampons and clothing. She had to leave places so many times to get home and shower and always had to have spare clothes with her. The bleeding was really bad.

Fibroids can definitely be a  cause of raised CA 125 but because of age, menopause etc they will want to rule out cancer, its standard procedure now

I'm different as I came to this forum because of my bowel, I had change in bowel habits, blood, positive Fit test and family history at a young age.. Lots of markers and got urgent referal on 2 week pathway for bowel cancer and my scan was completely clear.

It's so hard not to worry but chances are it will. Be the fibroid and if it were anything else then sooner found the better and treated.

Let us know how you get on
