Breast screening

Hello

Today I have been to the breast screening unit after an urgent referral. I have a lump above my nipple and have had grey/clear discharge from the same breast.
i was given a mammogram, ultra sound and biopsies (2 from the lump and 1 from the lymph nodes)

the consultant afterwards would not tell me what he thought it could be, he did however confirm it was not a cyst. He also added that "it" has been detected early, small and treatable. I have to wait now for the results.
Does it sound likely that it could be breast cancer. I would rather prepare for the worst with the possibility of having some good news next week

    welcome

at my appointment I was told suspicious 7 days later it was confirmed I was told it wasn't a cyst

that was July 22 I'm fully back to myself now like it never happened

good luck with everything love Lara ️

  • Hi Rachmally ,

On my breast clinic appt they did the examination , mammogram , ultrasound and biopsies and told me straight away they were 95% sure it was cancer and to be prepared. Confirmed then 2 weeks after when the biopsies came back. You have done the right thing in getting it checked out , many women Bury their head in the sand. Keep strong and positive , avoid Dr Google . No point stressing with the things you have no control over . Wait for the results and then you will know your plan . Sending love and hugs

  • Hi, I was referred after finding a lump. I was told by the doctor doing the ultrasound that what she saw looked suspicious, and the doctor I saw afterwards also said it looked and felt suspicious. Then she sent me a copy of the letter to my GP which said that the mammogram and ultrasound both indicated it was cancer, so I was prepared for the official diagnosis two weeks later. I've completed chemo and there is no sign of the cancer on my latest MRI. Will have surgery next week. I agree with DebbieK: try to stay positive by keeping busy and active (a walk outdoors every day is the best thing you can do now while waiting). I really hope you don't need them, but the treatments available now are amazing and success rates are high. Do let us know how you get on and reach out if you need to chat - that's what we're all here for xx

    Hi Rachmaly,

The consultants don't usually tell you what it is until the pathology results come back. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer. On both occasions, I was informed at my first visit, that they were suspicious and this was confirmed the following week. I have also had a third scare, when the consultant said that it was suspicious, but fortunately biopsy proved otherwise. Both of mine had been detected early and were treatable. That was 13 years ago and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life.

Did they tell you when to expect your results? I hope that all turns out well for you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you all so much for sharing your stories. I was told that I would get my results on Wednesday afternoon (22nd). I have however seen an update on my pathway with an appointment on 22nd at surgical outpatients

    HI Rachmally,

I am glad to hear that you have a date for your results. This is always an anxious time, so I'm sure that you'll be glad to know one way or the other. Whatever the outcome is, you'll get through it. Here's hoping that nothing untoward is found.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Unfortunately as I expected, breast cancer was confirmed.  I have a class 3 invasive ductal carcinoma. ER negative HER2 negative. The following day I was sent for an MRI and will get the results on the 29th. I am feeling ok about it all. To be honest, I found the wait for the biopsy results harder than actually hearing the words "it is breast cancer". The consultant was positive. Just need to wait now for a treatment plan and genetic testing.

  • Rachel

    im so sorry

give yourself a week or so you will accept it and will feel better when you have a plan

Big hugs my lovely love Lara always here to chat x

    Hi Rachmally,

I am so sorry to hear that you got the diagnosis that none of us want, but glad to hear that you are feeling ok about it. You're so right, it is easier to cope with a diagnosis, irrespective of what the outcome is, than waiting for results.

I hope that the results of your MRI on 29th will clarify the way forwarrd for your treatment. You may find that your feelings will fluctuate whilst you are waiting to start treatment. Please remember that we are here for you, regardless of how you feel.

Please keep us up to date with your plans.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
