CA125

Hi all,

First time here. Im 52 and I went to nurse recently with what I thought were perimenopause symptoms. Contraception has meant I didn't know for sure where I was in the menopause but I am still having some bleeds naturally. Have also been on HRT though is early days.

My CA125 came back yesterday at 51 and have been referred for an urgent scan. I have a feeling that my maternal aunt had ovarian cancer when she was about 60 but am trying to check the facts there.

Am trying not to catastrophise as I know it could be other things but just feeling a bit wobbly.

  • Hi everyone, first time posting, im 40yrs old no contraception as high cholesterol so had to come off 2yrs ago . Had on going stomach pains and lower back pain for awhile now and weeing alot more stool lose, but last weekend was horredous, so doctors i went bloods done and had doc ring and say ca 125 raised 42, urgent pelvis scan and ovaries to rule out anything sinister, ive been distraught thinking the worse, but im just praying its my fibroid thats made my results high or hormone changes poss perimenapausel.

Hard not to worry hoping my scan comes through soon, for now just trying to stay positve as ive a little one and dont want her seeing me upset

My dads mum had ovarian cancer so that's made me worry more so

  • Hi its horrible isnt it the worry just plagues you. My husbands bday today and just trying to be normal i can see hes worried but what else can you do.

Praying for everyone going through this to be ok

  • Hi there. How are things going?

  • Hi, how are you getting on?

I initially went to the GP last June, aged 56, believing I was post menopause but I'd had some bleeding since coming off the coil so I wasn't sure  first appointment was an ultrasound followed by hysteroscopy where they discovered a 7cm adnexal mass, polyps/ fibroids and thickened womb lining. I had blood tests, MRI and CT scans within the next week.

Outcome was that it was down to hormones , benign ovarian cysts up to 5,5 cm for the largest which I had repeat scans for 6 months later and have to go back for further monitoring. Womb biopsy came back clear so they went ahead and removed the polyps/ fibroids and fitted a mirena coil that should return the womb lining to normal within 6 months, I have to have another biopsy in 6 months and another 6 months after that before they will discharge me

Just telling you my story to offer you some hope that is not necessarily cancer, there can be other reasons. My CA 125 was normal, but this can be affected by your cycle, polyps etc. It was my ca19.9 that was high and they're still looking into that with the gi department.

I hope you get results soon and that they are good, all the best
