Hard sore lump in breast

I was on here over half a year ago, worrying that I had breast cancer, and I was one of the fortunate ones who didn't! I was diagnosed with multiple cysts.
This time I am fairly sure it is yet another cysts, and I've just been referred to the breast clinic by the GP.
Even though rationally, I know most breast lumps (especially ones that hurt) turn out to be benign, I thought I'd manage my creeping anxiety and post on here so I'm not internally worrying all by myself!
I do hope no one minds as I'm aware there are people on here with confirmed diagnosis to contend with. But I'm just looking for some friendly people behind keyboards to chat to whilst I wait! x

  • Hello!

Thanks for your message. It went ok, it was at a normal hospital rather than a dedicated breast clinic, so I saw the consultant who was certain it was a large cyst. He sent me to ultrasound for a scan and a drain- I went to the ultrasound department. They had no slots and sent me home!
So mostly reassured, but would have liked the scan and liked to get it sorted. Now I need to wait for the ultrasound dept to book me in. How are you? X

  • Hello

That's reassuring that the consultant thinks it's another cyst and hopefully puts your mind at ease - pleased for you. But totally understand how frustrating it is to have to wait for another appointment with ultrasound. Hopefully it comes in soon and you can get it sorted and move on.

I'm not bad thanks. Waiting for my referral appointment which is Monday of next week. Waiting for the appointment is so hard but just trying to keep myself busy until then.

    K x

  • Keep me updated? It's nice to have someone to talk to whilst waiting I think.
I know I should feel reassured. And to a degree I do. But my mum had breast cancer a couple of years ago, her mother had it and her mother had it. As a result they will provide yearly mammograms to me from aged 40. I'll keep positive and chase the ultrasound department tomorrow! x

  • I will do - and thanks for asking. It is nice to have someone to talk to. This forum has been so much better than endless searches on Google (which is where I started off). You too - keep me updated on your next appointment.

It's reassuring that they will provide yearly mammograms for you especially with your family history - hopefully this will also give you peace of mind too.

    Xx

  • Hello  please can you tell me what your cyst felt like. I’m out of my mind with worry

  • Hi  I still have some but the main one felt large, hard and sore. How are you doing?

  • Oh  I am in such an awful bad place today. My lump isn’t sore. Not a good sign apparently. It’s firm but moveable feels round (I think). Long story short there was a mix up with my appointment but consultant agreed to see me. He felt the lump, and saw I had a rash on my boob (gone now) and told me I needed a mamogram urgent. I don’t know if this was because of the rash or lump although he agreed the lump was moveable. Was yours moveable? I’m so depressed today.

  • I’m so sorry to hear this- is there anyone you can talk to / offload to about how you’re feeling?. My mum had breast cancer 4 years ago and is fine now!

    When are your next appointments?

  • Thank you for answering  have mamogram and ultrasound on Monday. He slotted me in (there wasn’t really any more appointments) but as I say I’m not sure if it was because he was more worried about the rash. I hope so and it’s a red herring. Would a rash be more worrying??? I haven’t told my children and my partner knows but is largely ignoring it.

  • Ok, how can you keep yourself calm enough until Monday? Do you have nice weekend plans?

It’s hard not to speculate etc but try and remember that even if it IS the worst case, things are so so treatable.  Partners can be tricky… is there anyone else you could talk to? Keeping it to yourself must be making your stress levels higher? x

  •   I have a friend who I’ve been texting but I’m not sure it’s helping. I’m just in this zone. The thought of more waiting terrifies me nearly as much. I know there is nothing I can do about it. I keep comparing my symptoms to others
