ENT concerns

Hi,

I recently saw a private ENT throat consultant after suffering with one sided tinnitus for several months and after a ct scan in December I also found I had thickening in my sinuses

Since December I also developed one sided nasal blockage, a cough, breathlessness and a wheeze, blistering at the back of my throat and now have at least 5 hard swollen lymph nodes on the same side.

The consultant performed a nasal endoscopy where he also noticed a thickening of my larynx and skin changes at the base of my tongue (I can't remember the word he used)

He put thus down to acid reflux which I barely have to cause this, and it wouldn't cause the nasal blockage

I now feel he should have taken a biopsy as ive been feeling unwell for several months and lost a lot of weight, now i don't know what to do other than the fact I've sent an email

Please could someone help

Thank you x

  • Hi

try speaking to your gp with regards to your neck lump and weight loss.  We have a neck lump clinic in a local hospital. It's a 1 stop shop where they do an ultrasound and then if appropriate biopsy, ct scan and an mri scan on the same day.  The ultrasound is the cornerstone of the appointment.  If all is well following the ultrasound they can put your mind at rest.
my husband had a diagnosis and probable date for surgery 2 weeks after first being seen at the neck lump clinic. He had tongue base cancer and there was cancer in 1 lymph node. He is now in the middle of radiotherapy and doing well.

Hopefully you can see a doctor soon and get checked.
    best wishes

  • Hi,

Thank you so much for replying and glad to hear your husband is doing well. The hospital you go to sounds very organised!

I find it really hard getting my gp to listen as I'm 30 so low risk, they always seem to refer back to my age.

I was reffered to nhs ent last month and still waiting for my appointment to come through, I'm not sure if they do urgent refferals

I've got a telephone appointment with my gp today but doubt they will listen

    Thanks again for your time

  • Hi

it was called a rapid diagnosis clinic.
it was hpv  positive tongue based cancer.

They said he may have come into contact with the hpv virus 30 odd years ago.

so if you have any changes on the base of your tongue at the back push to get it checked out.
